Application-level multicast (ALM) is being increasinglyrecognized as a solution to support multipoint applicationswithout the need for a network layer multicast protocol.Though several ALM systems have been proposed, all themulticast functions are independently developed and integratedinto individual applications. However, we can findout the common functions of ALM among the existing systems. Our goal is to abstract the common functions andincorporate them in the middleware called RelayCast. RelayCastmeets the fundamental requirements of various applicationsby combining several components of ALM functions. In this paper, we firstly present the architecture andimplementation of RelayCast. Then, we present the multi-pathrouting mechanism as a component. The multi-pathrouting achieves fast tree rebuilding at the time of tree partitioncaused by end-host's leave or failure.
