Abstract

Open hypermedia offers a powerful approach to working with distributed multimedia information. Carr et al. (1995) presented the Distributed Link Service (DLS), a design for open hypermedia on the Internet using the WWW infrastructure. In this paper, we report on work in progress on three extensions of the DLS to provide a more complete linking infrastructure: an agent for on-the-fly link insertion for text documents, new techniques for application of links to multimedia streams, and agents for link processing and management.
