A class of graphical presentations—including common ones like bar charts, column charts, and symbol charts—is characterized by a model of its production as a set of affinely transformed instances of a unit symbol. This paper discusses an APL technique for producing that class of presentations by functionally controlling the instance-producing transformations. Illustrations are given and the principal advantages of the technique are outlined.
