Abstract

The implementation of a network operating system designed to provide a shared disc-storage facility to a number of relatively small microcomputers is described. Communication is controlled by the central node of a star network in which small microcomputers form the peripheral nodes. The manner in which communication between the peripheral nodes and the central node is synchronized is described and the extent to which protection has to be provided is discussed. The system has been in use since January 1980.
