Rapid growth in the use of data base management systems has caused a shortage of personnel trained in data base concepts. Experience with a data base management system must be provided for students in this area. Methods for teaching data base concepts using APL are discussed. The Educational Data Base System (EDBS), an APL based data base management system, is described. The design of exercises and games to be used with EDBS is discussed. It is concluded that EDBS used with suitable exercises is an effective tool for teaching data base concepts.
