Abstract

Programmer productivity is clearly a function of the programmer's task: significant changes to the “nature of programming” would be most likely to effect productivity. We propose that this effect need not be adverse: requiring more work for the completion of a given project may actually increase productivity. In particular, we present a technique which seems to lead to better programs at lower cost, and discuss its implications.
