Abstract

This paper discusses what a programming language standard is and discusses how one is developed. It also reports the progress to date on the planned ANSI standard for APL. Through the process of standardization, many existing differences between APL systems will be resolved, resulting in a benefit to the APL community that will fully justify the effort.
