A methodology for reducing the complexity of designing real-time control systems has been previously reported. Techniques based on the methodology, using automatic hardware and software synthesis, are outlined. Practical considerations in implementing a usable design automation system, employing these techniques and producing a complete real-time controller given only a behavioral application description, are discussed.
