Abstract

A method is given for reduction of representations by finite matrices of finite and infinite groups, using the matrices of the generators for the representations provided these are finite in number. It does not necessitate construction of every element of the group, and care is taken to eliminate unnecessary steps in the calculation. The method may be used for representations which are not completely reducible.
