The logical design of a reliable transaction management in a distributed multiple processor system is presented. A main characteristic of the system is that it realizes autonomous nodes. This has implications on the construction of the distributed data base management software. We discuss some construction problems and we provide the concept of guardian transaction managers for the implementation of transactions as atomic units of consistency and recovery.
