Abstract

This paper describes some preliminary experience gathered during the implementation and early use of a program composition and version control system. This system has been designed and implemented as a part of the Adele research project, a programming environment for the production of modular programs (Estublier 83). This project has four main components: a) a program editor, interpreter and debugger; b) a parameterized code generator; c) a user interface; d) a program base, the subject of this paper. The current version of this environment has been developed on a Multics system. The program base, including the system composition and version control mechanisms, has been used for six months, notably for its own development and maintenance.
