Abstract

Software quality has received a significant amount of attention recently because of the increased emphasis by American industry on quality and because of the attempt to control increasing maintenance costs. Until recently quality was the responsibility of the programmer or software engineer; however, the increased emphasis on quality has prompted an increase in the number of separate quality organizations. The success of an independent quality organization is dependent on several factors: the current state of software quality technology, high-level management commitment, and adequate technical resources.
