Many organizations have an IBM 7090 (or 7094) computing system at a centralized location. Functions performed include many repetitive, well-defined activities amenable to 7090 processing. These jobs might originate in Engineering, Research, Personnel, Financial or Administrative areas of the organization. Unfortunately, many tasks are not transferred from manual to computer form because: The turnaround time is too great. The computer is remote from the functional areas and is, therefore, not easily accessible. The general job submission procedures are too involved or technical for occasional users in these functional areas to keep up-to-date with, or to be trained in computer use.
