Abstract

Strategic Planning, especially planning related to the long-term allocation of organizational resources, is a difficult and complex task. Particularly difficult is the allocation of field service resources with its multitude of variables and operating tradeoffs. Whereas traditional planning techniques are adequate in relatively static environments, their usefulness rapidly deteriorates in volatile, changing situations. This paper investigates the use of simulation techniques to augment strategic planning capabilities and presents the costs and benefits of using alternative techniques via a case study.
