This paper presents a stochastic systems framework for discrete event simulations. The stochastic model developed, called a simulation machine, serves as a vehicle for systematically reducing the state space and input alphabet used in the simulation. Classical reduction algorithms from automata theory apply, as well as a new theorem derived by the author and based upon group theory. Several examples are given.
