A small computer network has been implemented at the Divisions of Health Computer Sciences (HCS) at the University of Minnesota. Experience with this network has led to plans for extending it to serve a variety of health care related functions in the Minneapolis-St. Paul metropolitan area. Design considerations of the proposed network and examples of its use in the health sciences are presented.
