Abstract

A survey of State Data Processing Directors was conducted by the National Association for State Information Systems Research and Education Committee in the fall of 1974 to determine what areas of research they believed would be most beneficial to their organizations. Based on the results of the survey, a larger study of data processing managers and systems analysts was planned in an attempt to identify means of improving their performance and, in turn, the productivity of the organizations in which they worked. The study planned to encompass an analysis of the task, knowledge, and skill characteristics of managerial and analyst positions and of position incumbents. The purpose of this report is to present the results from one part of the study pertaining to systems analysts and systems analyst positions. Subsequent reports will present the other findings.
