Abstract

This paper describes the design of a system that allows the description of a data base independently from applications programs and independent of which languages (COBOL or FORTRAN) are used in the applications programs. The features of a new data definition language called COBOL-FORTRAN Data Definition Language (CFDDL) are discussed. Motivation and justification for a system with such characteristics are given.
