Abstract

This research reports on the deferred systemsoftware model to inform semantic and contextualinformation sharing in Web applications.Contextual information sharing requires softwaremodels that can lead to tight coupling of the Webapplication and the system environment. Theproblem addressed concerns how to improve thecoupling of a Web-based system and the systemenvironment to facilitate information sharing incontext. The generalised Deferred System's Designmodel and the Deferred-Specified IT/IS Matrix arepresented as conceptual tools to guide design. TheSystem-System Environment Interface is introducedas the software mechanism to cater for contextualinformation sharing. The Web itself and the discwwWeb application are used to exemplify deferredsystems that reflect the system environment andenable contextual information sharing.
