TCP is known to have poor performance over unreliablewireless links where packet losses due to transmission errorsare misinterpreted as indications of network conges-tion.TCP enhancements proposed in the literature differin their signaling and data recovery mechanisms, applicablenetwork configurations, traffic scenarios and locationswhere required changes are made. In this paper we categorizeexisting enhancements into several approaches. Motivatedby these criteria, we propose a new enhancement thatrequires only local changes, but applies to a broad range ofnetwork and traffic configurations. Comparison with existingalgorithms show this new enhancement achieves excellentperformance.
