Abstract

The up- and mid-stream of Huaihe River is a complex system of reservoirs and rivers, and is a difficult area for flood prediction and reservoir scheduling in China. It is very difficult for sequential computing to get the optimal reservoir cluster scheduling because there exist supercomputing problems in this domain. So far, no report has been made about the fact that the optimal reservoir cluster scheduling may be obtained by using Parallel & Distributed Computing (PDC). This paper is designed to propose a method to solve these problems on Huaihe River by utilizing High Performance Computing based on PDC to surpass this obstacle. Consequently, the accuracy of flood control scheduling could be improved and the decision time could be reduced considerably on parallel computer DAWNING-1000.
