Performance of connectionless services on local ATM networks is essential for HPC applications. Various performance features of TCP/IP among supercomputers on a local ATM network are tested. These include TCP/IP throughput and delay measurements as functions of socket buffers and packet sizes from one host to another. Results show that the performance is heavily affected by software settings on both the send and the receive side. Suggestions are given for HPC users on how to best utilize network resources.
