This extended abstract describes a tool for building portable parallel discrete event simulation models. The tool, the Utilitarian Parallel Simulator (U.P.S.), extends the modeling language of an existing sequential simulator (CSIM) with several simple constructs that automatically support time-synchronized communications between sub-models running on different processors. Performance results for a wireless communication network model running on the IBM SP2 are given.
