Abstract

Segmentation of an image sequence based on motion is one of themost difficult and important problems in video processing, videocompression, and computer vision (scene analysis), and one thathas numerous applications (object-based video database querying,MPEG-4 region-based coding, scene analysis). To date, severalapproaches to motion segmentation have been proposed, fromMarkov random fields approaches to partial differential equations.By and large, most of these approaches view motion segmentationas a 2D region segmentation problem.
