Abstract

Today's first generation shopping agent is limited tocomparing merchant offerings usually on price instead oftheir full range of attributes. Even in the full rangecomparison, there is not a good model which considers theoverall features in the negotiation process. Therefore, thenegotiation model needs to be extended to includenegotiations over the more attributes. In this paper, wepropose a negotiation model in the agent-mediatedelectronic commerce to negotiate over prices, productfeatures, warranties, and service policies based on utilitytheory and simple heuristics. We will describe a prototypeagent-mediated electronic commerce framework calledPmart. This framework provides the software reuse andthe extensibility based on the object-oriented technology Itis implemented on Windows-based platforms using Javaand CORBA for the network transparency and platformindependence.
