In this paper, we propose and analyze a methodology forproviding statistical guarantees within the diffserv model ina network, that uses static-priority schedulers. We extendthe previous work on statistical delay analysis and developa method that can be used to derive delay bounds withoutspecific information on flow population. With this newmethod, we are able to successfully employ a utilization-basedadmission control approach for flow admission. Thisapproach does not require explicit delay computation at admissiontime and hence is scalable to large systems. We systematicallyanalyze the performance of our approaches interms of system utilization. As expected, our experimentaldata show that statistical services can achieve much higherutilization than deterministic services.
