The Open Hypermedia model is based upon the separation of hypertext links from documents and treats them as separate entities. Distributed link services take this approach and implement an open hypermedia system above the infrastructure of the World Wide Web. This paper explores the suitability and applicability of extending the architecture of distributed link services by adding messaging backbone based on secure asynchronous message passing, which provides support for mobile users of distributed hypermedia information systems.
