Abstract

This paper proposes a framework for adaptive policy-basedQuality of Service (QoS) management in wireless networks. The proposed framework is a multi-layer agentssystem where agents cooperate to dynamically adapt networkbehavior to maintain the delivered QoS level to theuser. QoS prediction agents utilize user information suchas the user profile, location and terminal characteristics, topredict future changes in the supplied QoS. These changesare then reported to a set of QoS adaptation agents whichdynamically adapt the network policies to meet the user'srequirements. The proposed adaptive approach assemblespolicies at run-time given sets of imposed constraints andgoals to be satisfied. The new approach gives more flexibilityto users and applications to dynamically change theirQoS requirements while maintaining a smooth delivery ofQoS.
