Abstract

Recently, risk management for the disasters such asearth quick, mountain explosion, seismic sea wave, inaddition to ordinal disasters, such as typhoon, rainflooding and snow-slide has been seriously concernedto keep the safety for the residents in many countries.More reliable and robust information system than theconventional business or research oriented informationnetworks must be constructed to normally and correctlyperform their functions for residents even though seriousdisaster happened. In this paper, we propose a unifiedWide area Disaster information Network (WDN)using Internet based on the combination of both wiredand wireless networks. The system requirements andtheir functions of WDN are precisely defined and thevarious types of information for residents are preciselydefined. The prototype system of the disaster informationsystem based on our suggested WDN was builtto demonstrate and evaluate its functionality. Throughthe practical training in the local city for preparation ofmountain explosion, we could confirm the usefulness ofour suggested system.
