Abstract

As the threat of terrorism becomes more prevalent, theneed for technological innovations for tighter securityrises. Some of the areas where security needs to beincreased are at border customs stations, airports, federalbuildings, embassies, sporting events, and the like wherecheckpoints are being set up to inspect vehicles comingonto the premises. The proposed vehicle inspection systemuses an array of cameras and mosaicing techniques togenerate different perspective views that provide a 3Drepresentation of a vehicle's undercarriage. Thesemosaics allow a complete inspection of the undercarriageusing a graphical user interface without requiring the useof inspection mirrors or the vehicle to drive over amanned inspection bay. The system is designed forsimplicity so that operators will not require long trainingperiods.
