Networked multimedia information systems willplay a critical role for the emerging telemedicineapplications. Innovations in hardware andsoftware technologies are feeding this revolution. In this paper, the notion of quality of service(QoS) for communication of telemedicinemultimedia data is presented. Key multimediadata synchronization requirements are elaboratedand several synchronization protocols arediscussed. We also elaborate the issues ofmanaging pre-orchestrated as well as livevideoconference multimedia data fortelemedicine applications.
