This paper analyzes the cell discarding probability of an ATM connection over a wireless channel. A Markov chain is used to capture the characteristics of the physical channel, and a methodology is established to compute the number of errors during the transmission of a packet in terms of the parameters of the chain. This methodology is valid for any number of states introduced in the characterization of the channel. It takes into account the error detection/correction algorithm of the ATM protocol. Particularly, two channel models are considered: a Gilbert channel and a Rayleigh fading radio channel. For both, numerical results are provided.
