Abstract

In this paper we study a comparison of mesh and ring topologies for WDM networks. The bandwidth benefits obtained in a mesh over its two-degree counterpart (ring) is offset by increase in cost. The relative figure of merit based on capacity and cost indicated that ring networks are superior to the mesh networks. We study the two cases in terms of blocking probability and protection times as well as cost functions.
