A new approach for the secure transmission of messages by combining synchronous chaotic systems with classic cryptography is presented. A chaotic system sends a driving signal to two chaotic slave systems that have no influence on the generating of the driving signal. These two slave systems are synchronized and the identical output generated is used as the secret key for encryption and decryption of message signals. The encrypted messages include text, images and voice. The chaotic nature of the system that generates the key and the randomness of the signal that drives the process combine to make the recovery of the key by an eavesdropper extremely difficult. In this way, the idea of chaotic cryptography with synchronization is demonstrated using simulation results obtained with MATLAB. Experimental analysis is also reported to illustrate the practical feasibility of synchronization in chaotic systems.
