Abstract

This paper addresses the concept of Email security. Currently used S/MIME capable email clients such as that provided by MS Outlook and Netscape Messenger are handicapped by their storage and the use of certificates. Another widely used Email client, Eudora does not provide any security. In our work, a Secure Mail Module (SMM) is developed which acts independently to store and refer certificates, and their hierarchy and to also service both S/MIME and non S/MIME compatible mail clients. The SMM is developed in C/C++.
