Abstract

Everybody who already experienced loosing his way in today's web applications will agree that navigation support on the one hand and interaction support on the other hand are crucial topics in any but the most trivial web-based applications. Such applications should help end users to fulfill their tasks most efficiently. In this paper we present our approach to achieveoptimized one-to-one personalization of web applications, thus, leading to applications which assist end users in the most effective way.Our approach relies on a graph based model describing the navigational structure of hypermedia systems and a fully extensible XML schema description that models the structure of the nodes in the graph. Starting from these components, process graphs can be identified that correspond to specific business tasks the web application can be used for. These process graphs can be optimized by restructuring the nodes using graph transformations. Finally one-to-one personalization of nodes within the optimized process graph can take place by matching user profiles to node descriptions.
