Abstract

The handoff call blocking probability minimization is animportant issue for seamless wireless network operation.Handoff delay minimization is in parallel with this task.Mobile stations with QoS requirements should be able toreceive the same service level during and after handoff. This constraint amplifies the handoff latency caused forcedtermination problem. This research introduces a handoffmethod, which performs some preparation phase tasks inadvance, in wireless networks. With the Expected VisitorList (EVL) deployment at base stations and RSVP, QoS requirementsof an incoming mobile station is obtained andexamined, and hence overall handoff latency minimizationis achieved. A virtual QoS provisioning method for call admissioncontrol of the mobile is also proposed. Performanceevaluation with simulation experiments shows that the proposalcan be a promising methodology for QoS provisioningin the Next Generation (NG) wireless networks.
