Abstract

Although TCP and UDP application performance overwireless links may be substantially improved via link layererror recovery, different schemes are appropriate for eachapplication class. We present a multi-service link layer architecturethat simultaneously enhances the performance ofdiverse applications by supporting multiple error recoverymechanisms in parallel. We simulated concurrent file transfersand WWW browsing over TCP and continuous mediadistribution over UDP using our architecture. The resultsshow that each application achieves similar improvementsas when it operates alone over its preferred scheme, despitethe parallel execution of diverse applications.
