Abstract

This paper describes a scalable distributed reactiveMPLS traffic engineering system, which can be used forthroughput optimization of Best Effort traffic in IPnetworks. The load rebalancing in the system is realizedeither by path rerouting or by multi path balancing. Toprevent the system from routing oscillations, thedistributed traffic engineering units coordinate the loadrebalancing actions by using routing update messages. Itis shown by simulation, that the reactive MPLS trafficengineering system performs well in great networks andoptimizes the network throughput dramatically comparedto shortest path routing. The path rerouting and multipath balancing approach reach comparable results whilethe multi path balancing performs slightly better in thepresented scenario. To evaluate the reactive MPLS trafficengineering approaches in realistic network scenarios, ascalable rate based simulation environment is used.
