Abstract

Mobile IP enables mobile computers to roam transparentlyin any network. However, the current proposed protocolspecification does not support a suitable handoff mechanismto allow a mobile computer to change its point of attachmentfrom one network to another. This paper describesa handoff mechanism for a mobile host which makes use ofInternet Protocol version 6 (IPv6) and Mobile IP withoutthe need to introduce a new mobility management protocolor make changes to the network infrastructure.
