Abstract

This paper focuses on the implementation of heterogeneousMobile Ad Hoc networks (MANET). A heterogeneousMANET is a wireless network setting without a fixed infrastructurewhere participating devices may be of differentkind (e.g., desktop, laptop, or palmtop computers), maynot share the same operating system, and may not sharethe same wireless technology. We describe the design andimplementation of a prototype for the OLSR routing protocol, targeting multiple operating systems, devices, and radiotechnologies. We choose a proactive routing protocol toobtain optimal routes in a dense network with slow mobilitypatterns and to ease the portability task to the heterogenousenvironment. We also optimized the OLSR protocol, makingit more reactive to topology changes.
