Wireless devices are becoming very popular and powerfulenough to be commonly adopted to access distributedservices. More and more sophisticated applicationsare being developed and a very promising marketis quickly being established where mobile users may accessmultimedia data while roaming from a cell to another, anytime and everywhere. Such scenario requiresa strong infrastructure in order to adequately manageall the different issues related with high level serviceprovisioning. QoS represents one of the most crucialissues as it involves many different aspects and directlyimpacts the user satisfaction. In order to achieve thistarget, we propose an architecture which allows mobiledevices to access advanced services available in thewired part of the network. This architecture, based onmobile agents technology, assumes the presence of aVOD Virtual Server. The strategy adopted is to hideall the basic mechanisms inside a middleware layerthat provides the necessary interfaces to allow a simpleinteraction between the user on the one side andthe network and the distributed services on the other. The overall architecture, that is currently being implementedand tested, has been used as an experimentalenvironment to provide mobile users with a new serviceto access MPEG-4 ows.
