In B-ISDN links have to be described in terms of multiple metrics, thus making routing with multiple requirements an extremely difficult problem to tackle. A fuzzy logic approach is proposed to define a fuzzy cost to reflect the crisp values of the different metrics possibly used in the network links. The fuzzy system is then integrated into a complete routing system. Simulation results demonstrate the capability of this approach to increase the utilization and throughput of the communication network, and provide a fair distribution of calls, while offering a small delay.
