Abstract

A new cellular communication system based upon Direct Sequence Spread Spectrum Code Division Multiple Access (DS-SS- CDMA) and Frequency Division Multiple Access (FDMA) along with a unique cell structure is proposed. Performance analysis of the proposed system under Rayleigh multipath fading and Log Normal shadowing channels showed that this model increased the forward link capacity by a factor of approximately seven to ten over the standard CDMA cellular system. Also, under ideal power control and similar channel conditions, the reverse link capacity moderately increased over the standard CDMA implementation. The proposed system demonstrated that it is possible to increase cell capacity without deploying additional cells by applying proper FDMA frequency reuse to minimize interferences.
