Abstract

Despite intensive research being conducted on thetopic of adaptive filter design in general, adaptivefilter design in the discrete wavelet transform (DWT)domain with specific constraints is still an activeresearch area. We have developed a method for thedesign of a 2-chanel perfect-reconstruction adaptivewavelet filter which is optimized under minimumenergy constraints in specific bands. The optimal 2-channel conjugate quadrature filter (CQF) bank hasbeen designed using Sequential QuadraticProgramming techniques for non-linear, non-convexfunctions in general, although finding a globalminimum is not guaranteed. However, such a filtercan be effectively used with a wavelet based imageencoder for high fidelity transmission of large imagedata sets at low bit rates.
