Abstract

The focus of this paper is the searching behavior inPeer-to-Peer (P2P) communities and in that context, willdiscuss potential for enhancement of the P2P protocolusing searching behavior. Due to excessive networktraffic, network scalability is a major P2P problem. Thepurpose of this paper is to study searching behavior byusing log files and subsequently, will propose solutions toreduce the amount of redundant searching activities. Inthe current research, log data containing over 5 millionQUERY messages was collected over seven consecutivedays using a Gnutella-based P2P program. The results ofthis study will be instrumental in providing ways toreduce existing problems with P2P network traffic.
