Abstract

Commercial serach engines, especially meta-search engines, were designed to locate theinformation by querying multiple conventionalsearch engines and integrating the partial resultsgenerated by each search engine.A few meta-search engines that perform best for a particularquery. The problem of finding the search enginethat performs best for a query is known as thesearch engine selection problem. This paper proposes a new solution to thesearch engine selection problem. The proposedsolutions borrows Summary Schemas Model fromthe multidatabase arena. It also utilizes userfeedback and past performance to improve upon thefuture performance.A simulator was developed to show thevalidity of the model and to test its performanceagainst solutions embedded in the design of somemeta-search engines.Simulations results arepresented and analyzed.
