This paper describes the Bluetooth radio technologyas an enabling platform to wirelessly stream audiocontent from hotspots to small form factor mobile devicesover short ranges. The paper has been derived from myMphil thesis based on streaming Voice over InternetProtocol over Bluetooth Links. One can imagine a scenario of a person with aBluetooth enabled mobile elephone streaming MovingPicture Expert Group-1 Layer 3 (MP3) music files totheir mobile from a nearby access point in a café, bus, pub, taxi, rain et al. Each file uploaded would be storedin the mobile phone limited by storage. Prior todownloading a MP3 file a micro payment could be madeto purchase the track. The individual could also listen tomusic without making any payment and make voice overInternet Protocol (VoIP) voice calls a a fraction of thecost of carrier networks.
