Abstract

We propose centralized server based QoS routingschemes, where a route server is responsible fordetermining QoS paths on behalf of all the routers in arouting domain. In the proposed server based schemes, the dynamic link QoS state information, which is requiredfor a QoS path computation, is implicitly maintained atthe route server as it assigns or gets back QoS paths. Bymaintaining the network state information this way, wemay not only eliminate the overhead to exchange networkstate update messages but also achieve higher routingperformance. We discuss techniques for reducing theamount of processing overhead at the route server, andevaluate the performance of the proposed schemes usingsimulation. The simulation results show that the proposedserver based QoS routing schemes may improve therouting performance compared to the distributed QoSrouting schemes proposed in the literatures, and theproposed processing reduction methods may significantlyreduce the processing cost at the route server.
