Abstract

We like to find the cell loss ratio in ATM networkswhen the statistical multiplexing is an important factor. Inthis paper, first we have proposed the combination ofthree analytical expressions, which approximate the cellloss probability, based on the fluid-flow approximationmodel and two stationary approximation models. Second,we have provided a very accurate numerical model forthe finite buffer, which lies at the input of each VP. Thesources are statistically independent and each trafficsource has a two-state Markov model. This simulation isdone at the cell level and its results are very accurate. Wehave compared the results of the numerical simulationwith the results of the analytical approximation models. Also we have used the linear estimation to find anaccurate expression for cell loss approximation in ATMnetworks.
